Student's Reflection

Eason's reflection
I joined this club because my teacher was recruiting for the Cyberfair. I was intrigued by the opportunity to explore Hsinchu’s culture and the planned field trips. Having participated in a science fair in 5th grade, I felt confident in public speaking and decided to take on the challenge.

Our group chose "Zhunan Snake Kiln" in Miaoli as our theme. We first researched its history online, learning about its traditional structure and unique firing methods. It is one of the few traditional snake kilns still operating today.

Although I missed the initial field trip, I was fortunate to attend the "Chawan Festival," an event held only once every three years. With the core philosophy of "One is All," the festival promotes the Taiwanese tea bowl ceremony. Through this experience, I gained a deep understanding of the culture and symbolism behind the tea arts.

Back at school, we collected data, designed brochures, and built our website. Despite the pressure of the final presentation, our team’s excellent cooperation made the process a success. Through the Cyberfair, I learned that teamwork is just as important as technical skills. I am grateful to my teachers and teammates, and I hope the culture of Zhunan Snake Kiln continues to thrive!

Devon's reflection
I joined the club because I want to know more about our history and a lot of things. They created websites about our hometown, Hsinchu. During our trip to the Zhunan Snake Kiln to gather information, I was astonished! There are a lot of different types of kiln with different types of ways to make it. Also at DIY, I learned lots of information like don’t bend too fast at clay and more. When I have the first sip of the tea, my body feels as warm as being held in gentle embrace. When making web sites, I know how to use your own words to describe our hometown, also I know how to bravely talk to people about our hometown.

Cathy's reflection
Before International Schools CyberFair began, my teacher’s introduce to the International Schools CyberFair sparked my curios about school clubs and ignited a deep interest in the local culture of the Hsinchu area, leading me to join the club. Our project focused on the Zhunan Snake Kiln, a historic site that holds a Guinness World Record for high-temperature wood-firing and promotes eco-friendly firing techniques. Rather than a grand modern factory, this kiln is an ancient building brimming with warmth and tradition; during our visit, the array of unique masterpieces truly opened my eyes. By asking our prepared questions, we gained invaluable insights, which we later combined with research on the Chawan Fesival—a triennial event that brings together ceramic artists from around the world. This club experience has been incredibly rewarding, and I believe the Zhunan Snake Kiln is a remarkable place worthy of appreciation. I sincerely hope it continues to thrive as we work toward a more beautiful future.

Ethan's reflection
Participating in this Internet Expo, our in-depth study of the "Zhunan Snake Kiln" and the "Chawan Festival" was a very meaningful learning journey. Initially, my understanding of traditional pottery was vague, but through online searches, watching videos, and collaborative research, I learned to actively seek knowledge. We learned that the Zhunan Snake Kiln, named for its snake-like shape, is an important century-old wood-fired kiln in Taiwan, employing a firing method completely different from modern kilns.During the research process, I deeply appreciated the difficulty of preserving traditional crafts and the "craftsman spirit" of the ceramic artists who guarded the kiln fire day and night—their patience and passion were truly moving. At the same time, through the materials, we learned about the "Chawan Festival," a local event full of unique characteristics, and realized the importance of integrating traditional culture into local life. This event completely changed my perspective on traditional culture, revealing its vitality and its value for us to cherish. In the future, I very much hope to visit the snake kiln in person, participate in the Chawan Festival, and share this feeling of appreciation and understanding of local culture with more people, contributing to the preservation of culture together.

Mila's reflection
Joining the Cyberfair sparked my curiosity about Hsinchu’s history, leading our team to explore the legendary Zhunan Snake Kiln. Through our research, we discovered that this Guinness World Record-holding site is not just an old kiln, but a global landmark of eco-friendly wood-firing and 'craftsman spirit.' We were moved by how masters balance ancient tradition with scientific precision.

Our study also highlighted the International Chawan Festival, a triennial event that brings our local culture to the global stage. During our field trip, a DIY session taught me a vital lesson: working with clay requires patience, as rushing leads to failure. Tasting tea from a handmade bowl felt like a warm embrace, connecting me deeply to the craft.

This journey was a catalyst for growth. We learned to filter data, build a website, and communicate our passion for heritage. As we move through 2026, we no longer see traditional crafts as 'outdated' but as vibrant treasures. We hope our project inspires others to cherish the beauty of the Zhunan Snake Kiln, ensuring its legacy thrives for generations.

Joanie's reflection
At the beginning of the semester, I discovered this club. Out of curiosity, I joined the club -Cyberfair. At the beginning, my classmates and I discussed the theme of this time, Zhunan Snake Kiln. In the process of exploring the Zhunan Snake Kiln, I learned a lot. For example, the difference between wood burning and electric burning, different colors at different temperatures, and how to use clay to make your own unique mug. Because of the Internet Expo, I gradually stepped out of my comfort zone to communicate with others, and used social networks to share the local culture of my hometown with a global audience.
