▪Guinness World Records
In 2016, Master Lin Jui-Hwa of the Zhunan Snake Kiln set a stunning Guinness World Record by reaching a temperature of 1,563°C. This milestone, recorded on our "Temperature Wall," proves that traditional wood-firing can be both environmentally friendly and highly efficient. By reaching this extreme heat 15 hours faster than usual and using less fuel, Master Lin demonstrated that nature can create diverse, beautiful "ash glazes" without any artificial chemicals. Today, he continues to push the boundaries of fire and clay!

▪Guinness record challenge process
The record-breaking journey began on June 15, 2016, and lasted for 51 intense hours. At 8:47 PM on June 18, the kiln was finally sealed after hitting the historic mark of 1,563°C, surpassing Master Lin’s previous best of 1,555°C. Through this challenge, Zhunan Snake Kiln hopes to contribute to a greener planet by showing that traditional techniques can be eco-friendly and sustainable, overturning the idea that wood-firing is wasteful.
The Temperature Wall
▪Difference in sound
Works fired at different temperatures produce distinct sounds when struck. Higher firing temperatures result in a more compact and dense structure, which produces a softer, more muted sound; conversely, pieces fired at lower temperatures sound louder and more resonant, indicating a more porous or hollow interior. Furthermore, pieces fired at higher temperatures are significantly more durable and long-lasting.

▪The difference in glaze color
Ceramics fired at different temperatures produce distinct sounds when struck. Higher firing temperatures create a more compact and dense structure, resulting in a clearer, high-pitched, or metallic ring, whereas lower-fired pieces tend to sound duller or more muted due to their porous nature. Furthermore, works fired at higher temperatures are significantly more durable and long-lasting.
