▪Student's Reflection

Jenny Huang
I signed up for this school club - International CyberFair because I was very interested in it since the first moment I saw the introduction of this club. At the beginning, we discussed the topic and finally decided on Hsinchu as our research scope. After many preparations and information searches, December 2, the day we were going to set off our research journey, came. During this visit to Hsinchu, the most impressive part for me was the Shui Run Bing because I had never eaten Shui Run Bing before this visit. To me, Shui Run Bing is amazingly good for its taste. Another impressive part of this visit is Gong Wong (Pork Balls) DIY program because during the production process, I found that Gong Wong (Pork Balls) is much more difficult to make than I expected. However, the ones I make were very delicious. After returning to school, we sorted out the photos taken during the inspection and made a file. After the lessons of this club, I learned more about Hsinchu’s specialties, history, buildings, culture, humanistic customs and other different things.

I chose this club because the teacher introduced and recommended it to each class. I thought it was a new and interesting club, so I signed up the club voluntarily. At the beginning of the course, the teacher taught us to decide on a theme, and the theme should be based on Hsinchu City. Everyone presented our opinions and then voted. Finally, we combined the top results of the voting and finally used Hsinchu City's four city gates, Hsinchu City Government, and the themes including Dongmen Market, food, train stations and historical figures. Everyone has their own responsibility, and we searched for information and came up with the questions at the same time. In the process, I learned a lot of knowledge, such as whether the Dongmen Market has been renovated, declined, and has a poor environment. During the investigation, I also saw the beauty and sorrow of Hsinchu City. For example, Hsinchu City is the only city with a moat, and the Hsinchu City Government is the only historical site in Taiwan that can still be used for business. Through the introduction of volunteer guide, I learned a lot about Hsinchu City like knowledge of municipal government. I found that there are many problems in Hsinchu City that people don’t pay attention to. For example, the environment of Dongmen Market is gradually getting worse- there is a strange smell of smoke on the second and third floors. People no longer go there to shop or pay a visit because of many construction and planning problems. Although the Hsinchu City Government has many beautiful scenes, there are still many problems that have affected the beauty of Hsinchu City and cast a shadow over the beauty of Hsinchu City. I hope that everyone can work together to maintain the beauty of Hsinchu City.

I chose this club because I got very curious about the city after listening to the teacher’s explanation during the club’s recruitment. Therefore, I chose International CyberFair. Later, I learned that this was a research group about Hsinchu City. On December 2, we went for a practical inspection. First, we went to Hsinchu Railway Station. Before our visit, I had only seen Hsinchu Railway Station from the outside, but had never gone inside or taken a train, so during this visit, I was looking forward to visiting Hsinchu Railway Station and knowing its history. After listening to the introduction from the volunteer guide of Hsinchu Railway Station, we went to the moat and The East Gate. Later, we paid a visit to the Chenghuang Temple and learned the history of the temple. There, we also tried to make Gong Wong (Pork Balls) ourselves. In this DIY program, I not only learned a lot about the origin of Gong Wong (Pork Balls), but also had a lot of fun. Finally, we ate Hsinchu’s specialty and my favorite delicacy - Shui Run Bing. Before the trip, I knew nothing about my hometown, Hsinchu, but after the trip, I knew a little more about this city.

I chose this club because I found it interesting after my friend's introduction, so after discussing with my parents, I decided to join this club and use this precious opportunity to better understand my hometown - Hsinchu. At the beginning of the club course, we first proposed a scenic spot in Hsinchu, and then selected a place that everyone is most interested in - the city center of Hsinchu. We need to align with the theme of "cooperation". On December 2nd, we went to the center of Hsinchu to learn about these places. Our research trip started from Hsinchu Trani Station. At that moment, I found out that hadn’t been inside the station for many years, so this time I could reminisce about this beautiful Hsinchu train station with its exterior. This time, I also went to the Chenghuang Temple again. I saw how wonderful the couplets were. I also took the opportunity to ask the guide volunteers about the meaning of the couplets, by which my long-standing doubts were solved. At the entrance of the Chenghuang Temple, there was a shop selling Shui Run Bing. It happened that I hadn't eaten traditional unique bread for a long time. Through this inspection, I ate the coveted Shui Run Bing again! After a whole day of exploration, I learned a lot about the history of Hsinchu, which added a lot of emotions to me about this city and also increased my interest in the city where I grew up.

A teacher came to our class and introduced the club – CyberFair. The teacher mentioned that we would go out to investigate and make reports in English, which raised my great interests in this club, so I signed up the club immediately. Later, we went to the center of Hsinchu to learn a lot about the history and got to know several building designers whom we hadn’t known before this visit. Through this visit, I learned more about the history of Hsinchu, its characteristics, culture, and places, and also what Hsinchu city has been through.

I chose this club because I think that the teacher's introduction is attractive. After discussing with my parents, they also agreed with my idea. They hope I could know more about the history of Hsinchu through this club. When we first joined the club, we introduced ourselves, got to know each other, and then proposed the location we wanted to study, and then voted on it. After the vote, we decided to go to the East Gate and Hsinchu Railway Station to do our research. After the theme came out, I thought about how to combine the history of Hsinchu City with the theme of "cooperation". I was in charge of researching history, and after digging into it, I discovered a lot of information and knowledge that I hadn’t known before. With a wave of nostalgia striking, we also went to eat delicious Shui Run Bing, which I hadn't eaten them for too long. There, we ate a lot of Shui Run Bing. The volunteer guide told us a lot about the history of the buildings along the way, and also told me a lot of knowledge about historical figures that I couldn't find on the internet. We also ate the Gong Wong (Pork Balls) we made, and the process of making them seemed simple, but in fact it was difficult. The shapes I made were strange, but they were delicious. Then we went to the Chéng Huáng Temple, which I thought was very magnificent, full of the pioneering history of Hsinchu. We finally ended our trip at the Chang-He Temple. After we came back, we sorted out our photos and information, and corrected some of the wrong information that we had found on the Internet before. This whole semester's club has made me feel very fulfilling and interesting, and the city has grown on me!

This is the second year since I joined the ”Cyberfair" club. This time, I came to this club because I had already participated once last year and I thought it was fun. In addition, the teacher came to our class and highly recommended it, so I came to join this interesting club again. When I first joined this club, I found that all of them were new club members. Then, the teacher asked us to introduce ourselves. After the introduction, we proposed the places we wanted to study. After a week of brainstorming, we finally voted to go to The Center of Hsinchu City and Hsinchu Railway Station to do research. After our theme came out, we were thinking about how to combine "cooperation" and Hsinchu City. Finally, after a vote, it was decided that I would be responsible for the history of Hsinchu City. After a whole day of investigation, I learned a lot of knowledge that I had not learned before and a lot of knowledge that was not in the textbooks. At the beginning of the exploration, we gathered at the train station, and then the tour guide volunteers took us for a guided tour, first we visited the Hsinchu Railway Station, then we visited the East Gate City in the center of Hsinchu City, and finally we went to the Hsinchu City God Temple, which is very gorgeous and beautiful. Then, we took Gong Wong (Pork Balls) DIY program. Although the shape we made was very strange, the Gong Wong (Pork Balls) were really delicious. Finally, we arrived at Changhe Temple and the whole tour ended successfully. After we came back, we sorted out the photos and information, and corrected some mistakes, and finally it ended successfully. This trip made me understand my hometown better and love my city more.
