▪ Hsinchu Moat
The Hsinchu Moat is the only existing moat in Taiwan, located in the center of Hsinchu City. It is adjacent to the square in front of the railway station and connected to the East Gate City. In 1829, the Qing government dug two moats, the inner and the outer, for the purpose of fortifications. Although hundreds of years have passed, when you come to the river, you can still see the suspension bridge built at that time, which is full of the style of the time and also very distinctive! After renovation, the moat has changed from a turbid river to a crystal clear and clean water. Also, it’s been transformed from the original function of defense to a tourist attraction with rich ecology and diverse environment. It attracts more tourists from other places to come for sightseeing and checking in.
