Student's Reflection

Participating in the Cyberfair club has been an incredible and rewarding experience. When I first joined, I didn’t know much about the competition or what to expect. One of the key reward from this experience was how to work effectively with a group of people toward a common goal. Throughout the project, my team and I communicated and supported each other’s ideas, which helped us stay focused and positive. We all have different strengths, whether it was research, design, or writing. By collaborating, we created a website that we were proud of. This experience taught me how to finish tasks quickly and respect others’ opinions, which are important skills in our life. Another significant skill I learned was the ability to create a website. This experience gave me confidence in my ability to learn new skills, and I found it incredibly rewarding to see our work come to life. I now feel more comfortable at using website-building tools! Additionally, the Cyberfair project gave my team the chance to learn directly from experts in the field of glass. We visited the Glass Museum and a nearby glass studio, where we not only make our glass but also had the opportunity to ask experts some questions. That experience was particularly enriching because it helped us understand the intricacies of glass and its significance in our community. The knowledge we gained from the experts really helps us a lot on making website. Overall, my time in the Cyberfair club has taught me the importance of teamwork, the ability of web design. I am grateful for the experience and excited to apply the skills I’ve gained to future work.

This year, I chose this club because I was impressed by the projects Cyberfair has done in the past few years. They created websites about our hometown, Hsinchu. During our trip to the Glass Museum to gather information, I was astonished! A Japanese glass artist, Tanaka Hideki, had crafted many pieces inspired by the universe. For safety, we had to wear protective gloves and sleeve covers. While working with the glass, we had to continuously turn it to prevent gravity from affecting its shape. The piece also needed to be reheated repeatedly—what felt like an eternity—until it was just right. Later, we had the chance to create our own glass pieces. When I finally received mine, I was amazed! It looked so special and unique. Before joining this club, I had no idea glass could be such a deep and fascinating subject. I feel incredibly fortunate to have participated, as it allowed me to gain valuable knowledge and unforgettable experiences.

At the beginning of the semester, when we had to choose a club, I looked at all the options and found one that stood out—Cyberfair. It seemed the most interesting to me, so I chose it. I also remembered that at the previous year's award ceremony, our school's Cyberfair club had received impressive awards.

During our first club meeting, we analyzed some of the past award-winning projects to understand why they were successful. We also divided the responsibilities for our own project, and I was assigned to work on the museum section. Afterward, the teachers asked us to brainstorm potential topics for this year’s competition. In the end, we decided on "glass art" as our main theme, aiming to introduce it to the world.

On a Saturday, we visited the Hsinchu Glass Museum and a glass factory called "Glass Studio" to learn more about glass art and create our own glass pieces. At the museum, we explored various glass artworks and learned about the specialized tools artists use to create such beautiful designs. After lunch, we went to Glass Studio to make glass cups ourselves. I chose green as the main color and wanted it concentrated at the bottom of my cup.

Once I started working on my cup, I realized that even creating a simple glass product was quite challenging. This made me wonder—how difficult must it be to create those award-winning masterpieces? I gained a deep appreciation for the artists whose works are displayed in the museum, recognizing the immense effort and skill behind each piece.

Three days later, our glass cups arrived at school, and my finished product looked gorgeous. Initially, I didn’t think glass was particularly special; I had always seen it as just a fragile, breakable material. However, after conducting interviews, researching, and seeing the incredible glass art firsthand, my perspective completely changed. Glass isn't just a "solid material that is really easy to break"—with the right techniques and creativity, it can be transformed into something stunning.

Glass art isn’t just about its beauty; it’s about storytelling and self-expression through the material itself. Now, I see glass in a completely new way—one that allows me to appreciate its artistic potential. This experience has sparked my curiosity, and I want to continue learning more about this fascinating topic.

At the beginning of this semester, I discovered that the Cyberfair club seemed intriguing. Along with my peers, I chose to explore the topic of glass. Through this exploration of glass culture, I have gained a deeper understanding of its significance, history, and artistic value. Glass, as a medium, is not only functional but also profoundly intertwined with human creativity and expression. My study of glass culture has revealed how this material has evolved from simple tools to intricate works of art. Glass also plays an important role in technology and science. Modern glassmaking has advanced to include the creation of complex materials used in architecture, electronics, and even medical devices. Another aspect of glass culture that I found intriguing is its role in modern technology and science. Today, glass is not only used in art but is also essential in fields like architecture, medicine, and electronics. The development of new types of glass, such as tempered glass and smart glass, has transformed industries and daily life in ways I had never imagined. Glass is a versatile material that plays an important role in both the artistic and technological worlds. In conclusion, learning about glass culture has allowed me to appreciate the material on a much deeper level. From its ancient origins to its role in contemporary art and technology, glass is a symbol of human creativity and innovation. It is a material that transcends its functional use and continues to inspire artistry.

When it was time to choose a club this semester, my attention was immediately drawn to the name of the club "Cyberfair" on the form. When I saw the club's profile, I felt it was tailor-made for me. It focused on two areas I wanted to improve: English and website creation. The idea of working on a website while practicing English seemed like a great opportunity for personal growth and skill development.

In the first few classes, we searched for information related to Hsinchu area. After much research and discussion, we finally decided on the theme of Hsinchu's unique glass art. We thought it would be an interesting topic and help us explore more about glass art. Later, we also made plans to visit and decided to go to the Hsinchu Glass Craft Museum and the Glass Studio next to it. During our visit, we learned more about Hsinchu’s glass art culture. The best part of the visit, however, was the chance to create my own glass product. We had the opportunity to make glass pieces, under the guidance of experienced artists. I chose a light blue color for the glass and it turned out great! After I finished making my glass piece, I started to understand that making glass is a harder job than I thought it was. You need a lot of patience and skills to endure and succeed in this industry.

This experience gave me a deeper understanding of Hsinchu’s history. It made me appreciate my hometown even more, knowing that such a unique form of art was part of its history!
